The initiative and its purpose

The Church of Divine Mercy, built by the Polish diaspora in Keysborough/Melbourne in 2005, quickly became known to the entire Catholic community in Australia as the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy.

Thousands of believers visit this place of worship, participating in Holy Masses conducted in both Polish and English. Special attention is drawn to the conferences organized there, as well as the monthly devotions and teachings dedicated to Divine Mercy. Various other initiatives are also undertaken by the faithful of this Sanctuary. Two World Apostolic Congress on Divine Mercy have been held at this location.

After the last Congress, which took place in early November 2018, an initiative was born under the slogan: "Australia and Oceania Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy." Its goal is to encourage communal recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for selected intentions, approved by priests, at 3:00 PM on the following dates:

  • May 18 – the birthday of Saint John Paul II
  • September 14 – the day the Chaplet was entrusted to Saint Faustina by Jesus.

The initiators aim to encourage those devoted to Christ and the devotion of Divine Mercy, who are scattered across many countries in this part of the world, to join in collective prayer on these special days. Such united prayer is believed to have exceptional power in obtaining the graces we so greatly need today. This prayer is intended as a response to Jesus' own call to seek help through Divine Mercy, which remains our only hope and source of assistance in these challenging times in which we live today.
